Week of 09/28 – Impact of the “Black Death”

Essential Questions:  How did trade routes between the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia impact civilization growth and expansion? How does the geography and cultural characteristics of regions contribute to the formation of trade routes? 

Learning Objectives: Students will Identify specific national boundaries and geographic features of Europe and Asia, become familiar with technology and maps of Europe and China. Students will use a variety of map sources including Google Earth and the textbooks. 

Assessment: Class discussion, individual responses to questions. From Friday 09/25 (8th Period) – intro to Chinese culture– Google Earth, photo slideshow, Eastern and Middle Eastern Cultures are far more complex than European Culture in the 1300’s  Art From Ming Dynasty,  Map of Great Wall,  Silk Road Wiki,  Map of Silk Road,  Black Death Wiki,

Monday 09/28 – Begin watching the “plague” episode of Mankind: Story of All of Us  Notes mankindplaguevideoquestions.

Tuesday 09/29 – The “plague” episode of Mankind: Story of All of Us. Students will complete the video questions.

Wednesday 09/30 – The “plague” episode of Mankind: Story of All of Us. Students will complete the video questions.

Thursday 10/01- Go over Vocabulary from the Black Death Slide Show – Complete Graphic Organizer.  Slide Show- black_death_introduction.

Friday 10/02 – How to Avoid the Plague – Students will highlight the best advice from the document. 14th_century_advice_on_how_to_avoid_the_plague.

Wed-Friday.  10/07 – 10/09 Crash Course Disease! 11:36  – Students will generate 2 visual posters about the black death. One will be filling in a map that tells the story of the plague and the other poster would be a warning posted in Europe at the time about how to avoid the plague.  Here is the google Doc and here is the NPHSWorldBlackDeath -pdf.

Monday – 10/12 –  European Geography – Barriers to Trade from the East and West –  Euro- Guesser, Google Earth/ Free Apps.

Week of 09/21 – Effects of Trade Europe and the Silk Road

From Last week – Students will have a few moments to finish a short 90 word response stating their opinion based on evidence from the resources covered 90 word response will be submitted using this google form. Who is responsible for the Syrian Refugees in Europe 2015? We will also set up our Interactive Notebooks Wednesday 09/24 No School.

Welcome! Week of 09/14

Welcome to world History. We will be starting with introductory interviews Week of 09/09 and introductory procedures then begin to look at Europe today. Current Events – Syria.

Essential Questions – How do people get labeled when they move countries? What is the difference between a migrant and a refugee? Who should be responsible for the current Syrian refugees fleeing to Europe in 2015?

Learning Objectives: Students will analyze a variety of resources on the current Syrian refugee crisis in Europe (Notes and Verbal Response.) Students will define the difference in vocabulary between migrant and refugee (Notes.) Students will apply those definitions to the current Syrian refugee crisis by making an argument for who should be responsible for the care of the refugees.  Students will make an oral argument in class then write a short 90 word response stating their opinion based on evidence from the resources covered.

90 word response will be submitted using this google form.
